Edo Assembly Changes Leadership as Agbebaku Resigns as Speaker

The Edo State House of Assembly has undergone a change in leadership following the resignation of its Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, on Monday, August 17, 2026.

Agbebaku’s resignation came amid developments within the Assembly concerning his position as Speaker. His media aide, Ivy Adodo-Ebojele, confirmed the resignation in a statement, while indicating that further information on the circumstances surrounding the decision would be provided.

Following his departure, lawmakers moved to fill the vacant position and elected Hon. Yekini Idaiyi, representing Akoko-Edo II Constituency, as the new Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly.

The leadership change is significant for the state legislature, which is made up of 24 elected members representing constituencies across Edo State. The Speaker plays a central role in coordinating legislative proceedings, presiding over plenary sessions and providing direction for the activities of the Assembly.

The group then launched an organized campaign of 1-star Google reviews to damage the business.
The cafe owners, a Palestinian couple who fled conflict, called on Icelandic authorities to take action.

The development also comes at a time when political and legislative activities remain closely watched in Edo State. However, details surrounding the events that preceded Agbebaku’s resignation are still emerging, and further clarification from the Assembly or the former Speaker may provide additional context.

For now, attention shifts to the new leadership under Idaiyi and how the Assembly will proceed with its legislative responsibilities.
