Gov Poll: Davido Alleges Soldiers Trying to Stop Him From Entering Osun
Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has alleged that soldiers are attempting to prevent him from entering Osun State as voters head to the polls to elect the next governor of the state.
Davido made the allegation in a post on his verified X account early Saturday, claiming he had been reliably informed that soldiers were trying to stop him from gaining access to the state. The singer questioned the development, insisting that every Nigerian has the constitutional right to move freely.
The allegation came hours after the Nigeria Police Force announced a restriction of movement across Osun State from 12:00 midnight on Friday, August 14, until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, as part of security arrangements for the governorship election. Thousands of police officers and other security personnel have also been deployed across the state to maintain law and order during the exercise.
Davido, a nephew of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, has been actively involved in his uncle’s re-election campaign under the Accord Party. Governor Adeleke is seeking a second term and is facing challengers, including the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, among others.
The singer’s claim has since generated reactions on social media, with some users linking the alleged incident to the general movement restriction imposed for the election, while others questioned whether the restriction was being selectively enforced. Former presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad, described Davido’s claim as “dramatic,” arguing that movement restrictions are standard security measures during elections and are not peculiar to Osun State.
