Pressure Mounts: NANS Issues 7-Day Ultimatum to Osun State Polytechnic

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued a seven-day ultimatum demanding an independent investigation into the affairs of Osun State Polytechnic (OSPOLY), Iree, warning that it may embark on a nationwide action at the institution if its demands are not met. In a statement issued on Thursday, July 2, 2026, NANS National President, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde, said the call for an investigation was intended to protect students' welfare and restore confidence in the institution rather than target any individual.
According to the student body, agencies including the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Department of State Services (DSS) should conduct an independent probe into the allegations surrounding the institution. NANS warned that if no investigation begins within seven days, it will relocate its national leadership to the OSPOLY campus and commence what it described as a peaceful struggle until the issues are addressed.
The association alleged that students have been grappling with poor academic conditions, citing inadequate lectures, repeated payment of various charges, and technical difficulties during the recently introduced Computer-Based Test (CBT) examinations. It claimed that many students experienced examination portal glitches and network failures, preventing some from completing their examinations, while overcrowding at CBT centres reportedly caused some students to faint during the exercise.
NANS also urged TETFund and other relevant agencies to scrutinise the institution's utilisation of intervention funds, particularly those allocated for ICT development, as well as allegations relating to student records and other administrative practices.
