Adeleke Wins Osun Governorship Election, Secures Second Term

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has been declared the winner of the 2026 Osun State governorship election, securing a second term in office after defeating his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, emerged victorious after polling the highest number of votes across the state. The result was announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following the completion of the collation of results from the 30 local government areas.

The governor secured victory in 19 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11 local governments. Adeleke's performance across the state was sufficient to give him the overall majority required to retain the governorship.

According to the results announced by INEC, Adeleke polled 511,067 votes, defeating Oyebamiji, who recorded 444,815 votes. The ADC candidate, Najeem Salaam, came a distant third with 17,180 votes.

The election, held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, attracted significant attention as Adeleke sought to extend his administration for another four years. The contest was closely watched by political stakeholders, civil society organisations and residents across the state.

Declaring the result, the INEC Returning Officer said Adeleke had scored the highest number of votes cast in the election and had satisfied the requirements of the law to be declared the winner.

The victory means Adeleke will continue as governor of Osun State for another term. His supporters have since celebrated the outcome, describing it as a renewed mandate for his administration and its programmes across the state.

The election also marks another significant development in Osun's political landscape, with the outcome expected to shape the direction of governance and opposition politics in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
