Osun Election: APM Predicts Tinubu’s Defeat Against Makinde in 2027

The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has interpreted the outcome of the Osun State governorship election as a warning sign for President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Abubakar, the party argued that the Osun result demonstrated that voters could reject an incumbent political establishment when dissatisfied with its performance. APM described the development as an indication of what it believes could happen to the APC at the federal level in 2027.

The party further claimed that alleged negative reactions towards some APC leaders during the election reflected growing dissatisfaction with the ruling party. It also cited economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment and other governance concerns as issues it believes could influence voters in the next presidential election.

APM said Nigerians were increasingly identifying Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde with what it described as competent, transparent and people-oriented leadership. The party, which intends to field Makinde as its presidential candidate, argued that his record in Oyo State had positioned him as a strong alternative to the APC.

Makinde, who has governed Oyo State since 2019, is expected to complete his second and final term in 2027. APM said it would use the coming months to mobilise support for its presidential campaign and challenge the APC at the national level.

The party also warned against any attempt to manipulate the 2027 election, insisting that the choice of Nigerians must be respected. It said the Osun election had strengthened its determination to pursue what it described as a political effort to change the leadership of the country.

It is important to note that APM’s prediction represents the position of the opposition party and does not, by itself, establish the likely outcome of the 2027 presidential election.
