OSPOLY SRC Places Embargo on SUG Week, Rejects Proposed August 24–28 Date

The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, has placed an embargo on activities relating to the Students’ Union Government (SUG) Week, declaring that there is currently no officially approved date for the programme.

In a notice dated Tuesday, August 11, 2026, and signed by the Speaker of the SRC, Sen. Ounqakin Samuel Temiloluwa (OG MEDIA), alongside the Clerk, Sen. Ajayi Deborah Marvellous (GLAMOUR), the Council informed the entire student body that the proposed August 24–28, 2026 date for the SUG Week did not pass through the required deliberation and legislative procedure of the Students’ Representative Council.

The SRC consequently directed students to disregard any announcement, publicity or communication regarding the SUG Week or its proposed dates until an official date has been duly deliberated upon, approved and formally communicated by the appropriate authorities.
The development further underscores the Council’s position that major Students’ Union programmes must follow the required constitutional and legislative procedures. The embargo is expected to generate further discussions among students, particularly regarding the roles of the SUG Executive and the SRC in approving major union activities.

The SRC has urged students to remain calm and await official information from the appropriate authorities, stressing that any confirmed SUG Week date must emerge through the proper process. Until such approval is communicated, the proposed August 24–28 date remains unapproved.
