Oyo Declares Thursday Work-Free for 2026 Isese Day Celebration

The Oyo State Government has declared Thursday, August 20, 2026, a work-free day to allow residents to participate in activities marking this year's Isese Day celebration.

The declaration was contained in a memorandum signed by the Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde. The decision is aimed at enabling residents, particularly adherents of African Traditional Religion, to observe the annual cultural and traditional celebration.

Isese Day is an annual celebration associated with Yoruba traditional heritage and provides an opportunity to recognise and promote aspects of the people's cultural traditions. Oyo State has joined other states in the South-West that have recognised the occasion with official arrangements around the celebration.

The state government also extended its goodwill to adherents of African Traditional Religion in Oyo State, Nigeria and beyond, while wishing them a peaceful and meaningful celebration. Governor Seyi Makinde urged residents to use the occasion to promote peace, unity and stability across the state.

The work-free day is expected to provide residents with the opportunity to participate in approved cultural and traditional activities while observing the celebration responsibly.

Advocacy Media Hub will continue to bring readers verified updates on government decisions, culture, governance and other developments across Oyo State and Nigeria.
